Free inburgering practice exam: where to start

Free practice questions are the best first step: they show your level before you spend money or book an exam. Here is how to use them well.

Start with the official examples

DUO publishes example exams on inburgeren.nl. They show the real layout and question style, so look at them first. They are limited in number, so you will run out of them quickly.

Use them as a reference: if other practice material looks very different from the DUO examples, be careful.

Try our free questions

On the InburgeringPass homepage you can try free questions for Reading, Listening, KNM, Writing and Speaking without making an account. Choose A2 or B1, answer the questions and read the explanation in English after each answer.

How to use a practice exam well

A practice exam only helps when you learn from your mistakes.

  • Do it under real conditions: quiet room, no dictionary, with a timer.
  • Read the explanation of every question, also the ones you got right.
  • Write down which kind of question went wrong: words, grammar, or reading the question too fast.
  • Repeat a timed mock exam a week later and compare your score.

When are you ready?

Your scores should be stable, not just high once. If you score clearly above the pass mark in several mock exams in a row, you are probably ready to book. For Speaking and Writing, check that you can finish every task within the time.

Free versus paid practice

Free material is enough to find your level. When you want many questions per part, timed mock exams and feedback on Writing and Speaking, a paid course or app can save time. Compare the cost with the price of a retake on inburgeren.nl.
