Inburgering exam results: when do you get them and what next?

Waiting for a result is stressful. This guide explains where your result appears, why some parts take longer, and the calm next steps if you did not pass.

Where you see your result

DUO publishes your results in Mijn Inburgering on inburgeren.nl. You log in with DigiD. You also receive a message when a result is available, so you do not need to check every day.

Waiting times can change, so rely on the date DUO shows, not on stories from friends or forums.

Why Speaking and Writing take longer

Reading, Listening and KNM are mostly multiple choice and are marked automatically. Speaking and Writing answers are open answers, assessed by trained examiners. That human assessment takes more time.

How open answers are judged

Examiners look at whether you completed the task, whether your message is clear, and whether your language is at the right level. A short answer with small mistakes that does what the task asks often scores better than a long answer that misses the point.

  • Answer every part of the question (for example: who, when and why).
  • Use full sentences and simple linking words such as 'want', 'omdat' and 'daarna'.
  • In a letter or email, use a greeting and a closing.

If you did not pass

You only retake the parts you did not pass. Check on inburgeren.nl how to book a new exam, what it costs now and how much time you have left. Plan your retake only once your practice scores are stable, not as soon as possible.

Look at the part you failed with fresh eyes: was it time pressure, vocabulary, or not understanding the task? Each needs a different kind of practice.

Use the waiting time well

While you wait, keep practicing the parts you have not done yet, or the part you felt least sure about. A timed mock exam shows whether you are ready under real time pressure.
